Hormuz Reopening Odds Edge Up, Still Just 24%

Polymarket’s market on Strait of Hormuz shipping returning to normal by December 31 rose 4 points over 24 hours to 24%, on $165K traded. Its neighbors moved in mixed directions: a U.S. invasion of Iran before 2027 fell 2 to 15% on $535K, while a U.S. announcement ending the Iranian blockade by September 30 rose 5 to 15%. Both NATO–Russia clash contracts also climbed 5 points. Read together, traders see a slightly better chance the strait reopens by year-end but still price it as roughly a one-in-four event, with 100 days to run.

Traders still expect a slow reopening: Polymarket puts Strait of Hormuz traffic returning to normal by December 31 at just 24%, while a U.S. invasion of Iran before 2027 sits at 15%.

Rays–Yankees Doubleheader Tops Today’s Board

Tampa Bay and the New York Yankees play a doubleheader Tuesday, with first pitch of the opener at 1:05 p.m. ET and the nightcap at 7:05 p.m. ET. The opener is the most-traded game on Kalshi today by a wide margin, with 212,047 contracts changing hands, and the price has moved: New York gave back six points in 24 hours while Tampa Bay picked up three. The nightcap is far quieter at 8,738 contracts, with New York up three points there.

Kalshi’s game markets favor the Yankees (listed as New York Y) at 54% to Tampa Bay’s 47% in the doubleheader opener, and price New York Y at 55% in the nightcap.

Markets Lean Toward an October Fed Hike

The Federal Reserve’s next policy decision comes October 28, 36 days out, and both platforms price a quarter-point hike as the slight favorite. The latest data on the desk: August payrolls rose 162,000 against 53,000 expected with unemployment holding at 4.1%, and initial jobless claims came in at 196,000 for the week ending Sept. 12, with continuing claims at 1.73 million, the lowest since January 2024. A labor market that firm is why our panel sees the Fed debating hikes rather than reacting to weakness. Two more reports land before the meeting.

Firm labor data lines up with Polymarket’s 52% odds on a 25bp hike at the October meeting versus 45% for no change; Kalshi’s own hike contract sits at 54%.

Big Money Piled Onto the Rams Before Monday Night Football

Monday night’s Giants–Rams game drew the biggest Polymarket tickets of the past 24 hours. Tiger200 bought the Rams to win for $390K at 72%, maz26 added $243K at 72%, and ethanaz followed with $126K at 79%. On the spread, Rams −6.5, money split: Tiger200 and maz26 bought the Rams at 51–52% while Diabolical-Prize sold the Giants at 48%. Two accounts also put more than $590K combined on the under at 47.5 points. CBS Sports ran Kalshi player-prop picks on the game, including Jaxson Dart and Kyren Williams.

No resolution data was retrieved this run, so we are not reporting a result. Kalshi’s Super Bowl futures give the Rams 13% and the Giants 1% (−2); the Giants’ NFC East contract fell 9 points to 14%, and Dart’s MVP price sits at 2% against Matthew Stafford’s 4%.

Missouri AG Orders Kalshi, Polymarket to Halt Operations

Missouri’s attorney general has ordered Kalshi and Polymarket to stop operating prediction markets in the state, The Derrick reports. It lands alongside a run of scrutiny headlines: Sports Business Journal writes that Polymarket’s rapid growth is drawing mounting legal scrutiny, the Financial Times reports Polymarket is pressing Europe to treat its bets as financial products, and Yahoo Finance asks why thousands of identical $5,500 trades have put Kalshi in the spotlight.

No market settles a state enforcement action. The politics desk’s heaviest market is Polymarket’s 2026 Balance of Power contract for a full Republican Senate-and-House sweep, priced at just 7% (−1) on $348K traded.

WEATHER

Philadelphia’s Tuesday High Is Priced Around 63°

Kalshi’s Philadelphia (Intl Airport) high-temperature brackets for Sept. 22 settle tomorrow, and the market has concentrated on the low 60s: the 64–65° bracket prices at 64%, while the 62–63° bracket shows no live quote. Our radar flagged that unquoted bracket: the National Weather Service forecasts a high of 63°F at the airport, with a forecast error of roughly 1.4°F at this lead time. Farther west, Chicago Midway’s 62–63° bracket prices at 64% against an NWS forecast of 64°F, and our models see Denver’s 83–84° bracket as overpriced against an 81°F NWS forecast.

The nearest reading is Kalshi’s Philadelphia high-temperature brackets for Sept 22: 64-65° at 64%, with 62-63° unquoted at the time of our pull.

03 Biggest Movers

Bitcoin reaches $87,500 in September — 78% (+16); $90,000 44.3% (+7)

Polymarket · $384K traded across both

Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, traded near $85,934 on the Deribit index at the time of our pull. The September price-target markets moved hard over 24 hours: $87,500 by month-end rose 16 points to 78%, $90,000 rose 7 to 44.3%, and $100,000 barely moved at 4.5%. The same-day contract on Bitcoin above $84,000 at noon today jumped to 97.4% (+37.6). Nine days remain. From here, the market calls a further 2% climb likely and a 5% climb a coin flip. Six figures remain a long shot.

Democrats control the Senate after the 2026 midterms — 65% (+4)

Polymarket · $111K traded

Control of the U.S. Senate after November’s midterms: Polymarket’s Democratic-control market rose 4 points to 65% since yesterday, while the Republican-Senate, Republican-House sweep slipped 1 to 7%. Newsweek reports that a prediction-market forecast has shifted the Texas Senate race to “Lean D.” Our read: if Texas is genuinely in play, the map Republicans need gets narrower, and the market now treats Democrats as roughly two-to-one favorites to run the chamber.

3

September inflation above 3.6% year over year — 42% (+16); September payrolls above 100,000 45% (+18)

Kalshi · 11.5K contracts across both

Two Kalshi markets on the next U.S. economic reports jumped since yesterday on thin volume. The September consumer-price report, which settles Oct. 14, is now priced 42% to show inflation above 3.6%, up 16 points. The September jobs report, which settles Oct. 2, is priced 45% to show more than 100,000 new jobs, up 18. No public catalyst explains either move. Our read: both prices point the same direction as the markets leaning toward an October rate hike.

4

NATO–Russia military clash by Oct. 31 — 22% (+5); by Dec. 31 34% (+5)

Polymarket · $394K traded across both

Two Polymarket markets ask whether NATO and Russian forces come to direct military blows, one by Halloween and one by year-end. Both rose 5 points since yesterday. The market now puts a clash at roughly one-in-five before October 31 and one-in-three by December 31. That is traders treating a shooting incident between nuclear-armed blocs as a live possibility this autumn, not a remote one. What moves it next: any incident officials confirm, and how strictly the contract defines a clash.

Will the Fed hike on Oct. 28? The market says 52%.

Two data releases land before we would take a side.

The Federal Reserve’s October 28 meeting: a quarter-point hike prices at 52% (−1) in 24 hours on Polymarket, with no change at 45%; Kalshi’s matching contracts show 54% and 47%. Kalshi’s December hike contract sits at 67%. Resolves Oct. 28, 36 days out.

The case for a hike rests on data the desk can see. August payrolls rose 162,000 against a 53,000 consensus, unemployment held at 4.1%, and initial jobless claims were 196,000 for the week ending Sept. 12, with continuing claims at 1.73 million, the lowest since January 2024. Traders are extending the hiking path, not shortening it: Kalshi’s January contract for a further quarter-point hike rose 8 points to 33%, and the October unemployment market prices the rate above 4.1% at 39%, where our models put NO near 68%. A labor market this firm is the argument for October; the counterargument is that the same data leave room to wait for December.

The prices disagree on how sure to be. Polymarket and Kalshi sit within two points of each other on October, yet December’s 67% carries more conviction about a hike by year-end than about October itself. That gap is not enough to say which side is mispriced. Two reports arrive first: September payrolls on Oct. 2 and September inflation on Oct. 14.

We’d revisit if either release pushes the October hike contract past 65% or under 40% while December’s 67% stands still.

Bottom line: NO TRADE on the October hike at 52% — ask again after Oct. 14.

WATCH · RAYS @ YANKEES (GAME 1) — YANKEES WIN · YES @ 54% · KALSHI
Today 1:05pm ET

The busiest game on Kalshi today, with 212,047 contracts traded. The Yankees slipped six points in 24 hours while Tampa Bay climbed to 47%. Game two of the doubleheader at 7:05pm ET prices New York at 55%.

WATCH · PADRES @ DODGERS — DODGERS WIN · YES @ 53% · KALSHI
Tonight 10:10pm ET

The second-busiest game today at 164,304 contracts. Los Angeles gave back seven points in 24 hours as San Diego rose to 49%. Tomorrow’s meeting already prices the Dodgers at 64%, so tonight is the closer one.

WATCH · METS @ RANGERS — RANGERS WIN · YES @ 58% · KALSHI
Tonight 8:05pm ET

Texas climbed four points in 24 hours to 58% as the Mets fell to 43%, on 72,213 contracts. Tomorrow’s game prices Texas at just 53%, so tonight is the one the market likes more.

06 Biggest Trades

The biggest individual trades of the last 24 hours — who put money down, how much, and how it went.

BIG BET surfandturf $349K Colts vs. Chiefs (NFL) · Polymarket Chiefs @ 61–71% Bought Kansas City to beat Indianapolis at 71% on Sunday afternoon and again at 61% that night. No resolution data was retrieved this run, so how the position settled is not shown.
HEAVY VOLUME New York Giants to win the Super Bowl 399,799 contracts KXSB-27-NYG · Kalshi Nearly 400,000 contracts changed hands in 24 hours on a team priced at 1% to win the Super Bowl (−2). About 5.3 million contracts remain open.

Sunday’s Colts–Chiefs game drew big money on both sides: mooseborzoi bought Indianapolis at 29% for $155K while surfandturf backed Kansas City.

07 The Longshot

Trump out as President by Sept. 30 is priced at 0.4%. $296K traded on it in a day.

Eight days, one office, and a market that mostly exists to say no.

This Polymarket contract asks whether Donald Trump stops being president of the United States by 11:59pm ET on September 30 — eight days from this morning. It prices YES at 0.4%, down a tenth of a point over 24 hours (−0.1), on $296K traded in the last 24 hours against $239K of displayed liquidity. More money changed hands here than on whether Democrats win the Senate.

What has to happen is simple to state: by whatever route, the office has to change hands before the deadline. Headlines do not count; only who holds the job at the deadline does. Nothing of the sort shows up in the price, which drifted lower, not higher, over the past day. No base rate exists for a sitting president leaving office in a given eight-day stretch. Our read: this is a market about the passage of time, not politics. NO at 99.6% is not a free payout either. A winning share returns $1 and a losing one returns nothing, so the buyer risks the whole purchase price for less than half a point of gain. Entertainment, with a very short shelf life. ↗
